Childbirth Education

Educating yourself on the Childbirth Process and all of your options,
all possible interventions, cesarean births, postpartum recovery, newborn care and more
is so important, and essential to your overall birth experience.
Even if you're not a first-time mom, these classes can still be beneficial to you and your partner  by providing updated information on current evidence-based practices, protocols or recommendations that may have changed since the last time you had a baby, refreshing your memory on all things labor & postpartum, educating and empowering your partner
in different comfort techniques.... not to mention every pregnancy and birth brings its own unique challenges and experiences, so it's important to prepare for each one!

Educated.   Empowered.   Imformed.

Brandy Huckaby

As a Registered Nurse, Doula, and Childbirth Educator,
I have a huge knowledge of and passion for all things birth,
and I LOOOVE to educate expecting parents on anything & everything they might want to or need to know.
I have created my own unique curriculum from a combination of resources from other educators, evidence-based research, and my own experiences both personally and professionally.
I also have various different options for presenting this information
to you, in a way that most benefits you.

You may have heard “Birth is natural.”
And while it most definitely is a natural, normal, biological process, with modern technology & medicine, it is easy to view it as anything but natural.  Unfortunately a lot of medical professionals view pregnancy & birth as a "problem" to be solved, rather than a natural process to support.  Obviously, for some, these medical interventions may become necessary due to complications, however for most expecting mamas,
these are likely unnecessary.

So, if you wish to best advocate for & understand when something is
necessary and when it isn't, that takes education and preparation, and often guidance from a Doula or other professional that knows what you’re facing.  As a part of your local village, I would love to be a part of this preparation in teaching you the information you need to know in order to make informed and confident decisions about your
pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

I can't wait to work with you!

Hey Mama...

BIRTH CENTER BIRTHs

Birth is often viewed as messy and unattractive.
But really, birth is miraculous, raw, vulnerable, and amazingly beautiful. You are about to embark on
one of the most empowering, transformative moments of your life.
So why not capture these emotional events that tell your story?
And create memories you can share with your kids for a lifetime to come?

It's a day you've waited for over 9 months to experience, and I want to help you remember every beautiful detail of it.
Similar to your wedding day...This day can be such a blur by the end.
Especially for you as you are enduring each contraction & uncomfortable moment. Because of these moments,
it can cause the good and special moments to blur as well. I am there to catch all of these little details,
to keep these memories alive.
This way, you also aren't having to burden your partner or family to document these things....
They can stay living in the moment.

About my Classes:

What is the goal of my class?:

Is my class religion-based?

What makes my class different?

My intention is to truly educate my clients on all aspects of birth, all options, all avenues. Speak the evidence-based truths. Speak to how they can advocate best for themselves. Speak to how to handle the non-ideal situations and circumstances mentally & emotionally. I truly do want all of them to come out with positives from their birth even if it did not go their "ideal" way.
I want to break down stigmas.  I think some very natural-minded birth workers
can sometimes make all hospital births sound traumatic, and truly a hospital might be where one feels most safe.....so to tear that idea down makes it traumatic before it even really is.  I am very much an "in-the-middle" person when it comes to all-natural/holistic/hands-off births and fully-intervened hospital births. I think there's a time and place for hospitals and interventions, and a time & place for a natural, hands-off approach too.  So, I want my clients to learn more about when interventions become necessary and when they aren't. As well as the evidence behind being more hands-off and natural in your approach.
So, again....a fully, well-rounded education.
There's a lot of judgement out there on social media, maybe even in your own friend or family circle.  And this can make you feel scared or uneasy about your birth plan that you once were confident in.  My goal is to mitigate the fears, and debunk some things, and to really empower women & their partners to be excited about their birth, no matter how it looks.
I really like to involve both mom & dad in the process.  I like to make it fun, and interactive, while always leaving them feeling like they learned new things and feel empowered to tackle the birth of their baby in the best & most positive way possible.  So, Dad will be super involved with hands-on practice of the comfort measures using my critiques, practicing different labor & pushing positions, practicing different coping mechanisms... really envisioning the birth day.
Giving them the tools to handle it, whether or not they plan on having a doula for extra support on that day.  My ultimate goal is for my clients to leave feeling like they not only learned all the things there is to know about & prepare for their birth, but also learned how to best care for themselves during pregnancy, birth & postpartum... feeling prepared to tackle any obstacle that comes their way, and feeling that they had fun & made lifelong friends along the way.

I think what makes my course different is how comprehensive it is.
I truly cover SO much.  And I cover all options both in where you give birth but also how you give birth.  I cover the variety of interventions and situations that may be thrown your way, because I believe it's important to not only know how you want your birth to ideally look, but also to prepare your mind for other outcomes, and think about those things BEFORE they happen. To educate yourself on everything as much as you can before an emotional moment is in play.
I think some women worry if they talk about or think about non-ideal situations, it will make the bad things more likely to happen.... but instead I think it makes it more likely to be less traumatic....because you understood what was happening, why, and truly made educated informed decisions for you and your baby.  Many birth classes can be very one-sided.  So, they are either ALL natural, or even ALL intervention.  I cover both.  I don't think there's one right way. I think it depends on the person and the situation.

So why you should take my course over others is not only the experience I bring to the table, but also my approach.  As mentioned above, I do not bring a one-sided or one-goal approach. I cover everything regardless.  Because truly anything can happen in birth.  Education is power.

While I am a firm, Christian believer myself, my actual curriculum is
not a Christian curriculum.  I don't educate my clients in a way that excludes those of other beliefs.  My goal is to present it in a way that everyone can kind of put their own spin on it and truly make their birth their own. Whether that's with their faith, their birth location, birth plan & intervention decisions, their comfort measures taken, their inclusion of family & friends in that space....sharing their story with the world afterwards, or keeping it all to themself.  Everyone is unique and deserves to have their birth their way, and not be told it can only be good if it looks like x, y, and z.

Meditations & Hypnobirthing:

12+ differently themed online
medication recordings & hypnobirthing recordings.
The meditations can be used in pregnancy to provide relaxation prior to going to bed for better sleep, to relieve anxiety, to connect with your baby & your body,
as well as in labor.  The hypnobirthing recordings are also beneficial to listen to in pregnancy and create muscle memory.  Creating muscle memory for relaxation is important in order to better achieve relaxation in labor.
So, listening to these in pregnancy, and then following up with listening to them in labor, can really work to bring you to another space of relaxation
through your contractions.
