Welcome to the world, little Miss Isla Ann!!
This sweet girl is baby girl #2 for this sweet couple. Their older little girl is going to be the BEST big sister! She was born ahead of her due date at 39 weeks, so we all expected her little sis to follow suit and be born before Christmas… but, she had other plans!
On Christmas Day, Mama went in to get everything checked out, as little Miss Isla was being quieter
than normal. Thankfully all checked out okay and her family got to enjoy their last Christmas as a family of 3. Then, on December 29th…almost a week after her due date….
she finally decided she was ready to join in on the fun!
Around 2:30am, Amber started contracting and they picked up in intensity pretty quickly over the next few hours as she labored at home. Once she hit an active labor pattern, and things were feeling pretty intense, they decided to head over to the hospital to get checked out. To Amber’s surprise, she found out she was 7 to 8cm already! And around 1 hour later, she was completely dilated!
When I tell you this Mama rocked her labor, boy do I mean it! As calm and controlled as she was, you would have never guessed she was fully dilated and ready to meet her baby!
It took a little bit for her to begin to feel the urge to push. We tried multiple positions to help baby descend lower into the pelvis, and when that moment hit…..it hit hard. Her nurse had pulled out the squat bar for the labor bed….and as soon as Amber pulled herself up into a full squat with the bar, the ring of fire and urge to push hit her. We called in her nurse who had just stepped out the room, and sure enough, baby Isla’s head was crowning and there was no time for the doctor to get there to catch her.
However, Amber had a fantastic labor nurse on her team who was right there, bringing baby Isla into Amber’s arms safely and securely. And it was just the most beautiful, natural, raw, real, peaceful, exhilarating moment. Baby Isla Ann was born into her Mama’s arms at 12:16pm on December 29th. Weighing 8lbs, 10oz…. With the most precious cry.
Unfortunately, Amber had some difficulty with delivering the placenta, and amount of bleeding after baby was born, so the immediate postpartum wasn’t quite as peaceful. But thankfully, after a short amount of time, both Mom & baby girl were doing well — recovering, snuggling, breastfeeding, and just enjoying their time finally meeting each other face to face. Such a beautiful thing to witness.
I can’t wait to see where life takes this sweet little girl of theirs!
I just know her and her big sis will be the best of friends.
So, without further ado….Enjoy this sweet video/photo sneak peek of little Isla’s birth story….
