What a beautiful birth story….this was such a special day for this family, welcoming their
fourth baby boy into the world early morning yesterday, December 16th!
This Mama had stayed at 2cm, in prodromal labor for so long!
Labor started pre-term, and she thankfully got it stalled until she was past 37 weeks and in the safe zone
to deliver at home. But after that it would just start and stop, as baby boy
kept flipping positions from “sunny-side up” (posterior) to the normal anterior position.
Once he was back in prime position, we were all anxiously awaiting his arrival,
but baby Eliot had other plans!
Contractions began to get heavier & more consistent again in the afternoon on December 15th,
so Kelly had a midwife appointment to get her membranes stripped and hopefully get things going…which it did!
Around 9:00pm that night, I got a text that it was time to head over to her house!
I rushed to get myself ready, grab my gear, and get out the door, arriving a mere 35minutes later
(no, I did not speed)…..
Shortly after, the midwife Amy arrived, and determined Kelly was 3cm, and baby boy had flipped back sunny-side.
Her water had also broken at this time, so we knew regardless, baby would be born soon.
Needless to say, Kelly was discouraged, but determined to flip baby back, and get labor going in the right direction… SO SO ready to meet her baby boy!
Her labor team & family all decided it was best at that point to let her rest a bit, and let baby flip back on his own before trying to get more active and help the contractions along more.
But, only a few hours later, things were heating up….
she felt like baby had gotten back in prime position, and he was LOW.
By this point, Kelly was in her tub, really breathing through her contractions,
and none of us fully realizing quite how far along she was, and how close we were to meeting baby.
She was literally one of the calmest, quietest, most strong laboring moms
I’ve ever seen in all my experience! Truly amazing!
Soon we could hear her breathing & moaning through contractions differently, and knew things were progressing. Before we knew it, she’s telling us that her baby boy is right there, and she’s ready to push. She could feel his head. So, we all scramble to get into position and help her & Dad catch baby.
And with basically one push with the next contraction, baby Eliot was fully delivered!
So fast, and so smooth! We were all in awe!
The shock, amazement, love, and SO many more emotions filled the room in that moment.
All 3 of her older boys had been right outside the door listening to their baby brother’s birth
& joined us in the room immediately after. So excited to see their new baby brother. It was such a precious moment.
What an awesome night for this whole family….and one I won’t soon forget!
So, here’s a video/photo montage of that special day…. Enjoy!
